A family has launched a search to find homes for six puppies after unknowingly adopting a pregnant rescue dog.

Couple Jan and Aide Cappleman, who live in Fressingham in Suffolk, were left in a panic after finding out rescue dog Milly was about to give birth to six Jack Russells.

After a stressful few months, five of the dogs have now been adopted, with 'Billy' the only puppy still waiting to find a new home.

Jan Cappleman, originally from Great Yarmouth, said: "My husband fell for Milly as soon as he saw her and we adopted her as our family pet as we had lost our other dog just before Christmas.

"She was so thin when we got her, we didn't notice that the weight she was putting on was due to her pregnancy. After we realised, we couldn't get a vet appointment for a week - and by then it was too late".

Needing expert help, they found Catherine Pinfold from K9 breeding solutions - based in Essex - who helped them deliver two puppies over the phone while en route to the couple's home. After arriving, she delivered the last six safely.

Jan and Aide then decided to enlist the help of Norfolk-based Hallswood Animal Sanctuary to find the perfect match for each dog.

Billy's favourite activity is "playing" and he "loves to initiate this with his litter of mates" so is looking for a home with a dog he can play with.

Lyz Hall, owner of Hallswood Animal Sanctuary, said: "When rescue puppies are brought into the world the odds of them finding a safe home is stacked against them, with the support of a charity the owners can be vetted and matched to each dog's personality".
