A village pub hopes to become a new destination for foodies after being "transformed" by its new landlords.

The Cricketers on the Green in Aldborough has had a name change to boot, rebranding from being known as the Black Boy.

It was taken over by couple Kent Laws and Julie Heakin six months ago, who have made their first venture into the world of hospitality having previously worked in advertising for decades.

Mr Laws said: "Since taking over the pub we have invested a significant amount and have transformed it in every possible way.

"We decided to change the name as the nearby Black Boys Hotel in Aylsham is so well known so we wanted to create a fresh brand and identity.

"It has been fantastic so far and we have been welcomed with open arms by villagers.

"We have really enjoyed the new challenge and the chance to try our hands at something different."

The food offering is a big focus for the pair, with ingredients sourced as locally as possible, be it fish and seafood caught that day in Cromer to vegetables picked from farms down the road.

Mr Laws added: "Our two chefs Cody Buxton and Jake Wragg work absolute miracles.

"It is their kitchen and we give them the space to create things that excite them and showcase their skills, so our menu is always changing depending on what is available seasonally.

"But while we hope to become known for our food, we are still very much a pub for the local community and we try and support the village as much as possible, such as the village discount cards we offer.

"It is an absolutely beautiful, quintessential village pub and we plan to keep it that way while still looking for opportunities to innovate."
