Fears over the standard of education children will receive at a Norfolk school have been raised after it was revealed staff are under threat of redundancy.

The Inspiration Trust, which took over Queensway Infant School in Thetford last month, has announced that it is preparing to axe several of the teaching assistants and other support staff at the school.

This move has been criticised by parents, who have raised concerns about the standard of education their children will receive, particularly those with additional needs.

One, who did not wish to be named, said: "If you are the parent of a child who needs the extra support it is certainly worrying.

"I feel really sorry for the staff that are being affected by the cuts too."

The trust - which has also come under fire this week for asking parents to sign an agreement banning them from bad-mouthing its academies on social media - would not confirm how many jobs were at risk, but said the school would not be losing any teaching staff.

Ahead of the takeover, the school employed 34 staff members overall - 22 full-time - with its highest ratio of teachers to teaching assistants for a primary school in the trust.

A spokesman for the trust said: "We are currently working with Queensway to ensure the school operates within its financial parameters and as part of this working to align our support staff with that of our other primaries.

"Although no teaching staff are affected, we do understand that this is a difficult time for everyone within the school and we are working hard to support those impacted."

It currently runs seven primary-level schools, including Charles Darwin Primary in Norwich, Great Yarmouth Primary Academy and Diamond Academy, also in Thetford.
