A Norwich man is to be sentenced after police discovered more than 7,000 indecent images of children and more than 5,000 videos on devices at his home.

Ali Khoja, 58, was charged with three counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

Norwich Magistrates Court heard police executed a warrant at Khoja's address at Cardigan Place in Norwich where 22 electronic devices were searched by police.Eastern Daily Press:

Holly Postle, prosecuting, said as a result of the search officers discovered the images Khoja has been charged with.

The court heard a total of 7,414 images were found, including eight category A images - the most serious - and nine category A videos.

Also found were 20 category B images and 44 category B videos, 3,427 category C images and 4,364 videos as well as 3,959 prohibited images of children and 1,080 videos.

Khoja, of Cardigan Place, Norwich, appeared at court on Thursday (June 8) when he admitted three counts of making indecent images of children on or before September 1 2020.

He also admitted possessing prohibited images of children on or before September 3 2020.

Lisa Robinson, mitigating, said the matter was able to be sentenced in the magistrates court as the offences were within their sentencing powers.

She urged the case to be adjourned in order that a pre-sentence report be carried out on Khoja.

Colonel Howard Gill, chairman of the bench of magistrates, adjourned sentence until July 27 to allow a pre-sentence report to be carried out.

He did however warn Khoja that the case could still be sent to Norwich Crown Court for sentence if it was felt appropriate.

Khoja was granted unconditional bail until the date of his next hearing.
