A climate protester from Norfolk has admitted taking part in protests that forced the emergency shutdown of an oil terminal.

Nicola Stickells, 52, was among dozens of Just Stop Oil activists arrested during a series of protests at Buncefield oil depot in Hertfordshire in April 2022.

Appearing before St Albans Magistrates Court this week she changed her plea to guilty having previously denied two charges of breaching enclosed premises for an unlawful purpose and obstructing lawful activity.

The court was told the charges involved her climbing on vehicles and structures containing and distributing fuel forcing the oil terminal to enact an emergency shutdown.

Stickells, of High Road, Needham, near Harleston, was given unconditional bail until she is due to be sentenced on June 16.

During the protests activists blocked access to the oil terminal by stopping a tanker transporting 37,000 litres of fuel at the entrance while others attached themselves to it and locked themselves together using metal tubes.

It was part of a wider series of protests that saw Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion protesters block 10 oil terminals.
