A major A-road in Norfolk is to shut for several days as resurfacing works get under way.

The A134 Mundford Road in Thetford will be shut on certain dates in May and June while contractors carry out surface improvements.

The project is part of Norfolk County Council's efforts to give 280 miles of Norfolk's roads a "new seal" to extend their life.

The road will be shut to traffic on May 30 from 7pm overnight, early on the morning of June 4 and June 11 and overnight from 7pm on June 21-22.

A fully signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works.

Drivers are urged to drive slowly over the new surface until it is bedded in.

The new surface will consist of bitumen and chippings, which is laid on the road to help prevent water penetration and potholes from appearing, according to Norfolk County Council.

Earlier this year, 47-year-old Arunas Steiblys died in a crash on the same stretch of road after his VW Golf was involved in a crash.
