A long-awaited retro arcade bar has opened in a historic Norwich pub, bringing something new to the city.

The former Prince of Wales pub has been transformed into Barcadia, a venue offering retro arcade games such as Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Outrun - alongside cocktails and plant-based food.

The new venture is the sister business of Slice + Dice, a board game café and bar in St Benedicts Street run by Samantha Whitehouse.

The 32-year-old, who will split her time between the two businesses, has partnered with YouTuber Pete Leigh, 39, who has been creating videos about retro technology for six years.

The menu of "dirty junkfood homemade from scratch", features giant platters, loaded hot dogs and loaded fries featuring pizza toppings.

An extensive menu of cocktails will all be made from scratch, creating as little waste as possible and themed to be linked to the games.

With lots of seating, Ms Whitehouse is keen for people to come along and enjoy the space as a bar and not just an arcade.

She said: "The Kickstarter preview night was really great. We didn't know how it was going to go at all, but we were so pleasantly surprised.

"People commented on how different it felt inside and how great the atmosphere was. The response to the games was great, it was so nice seeing people get excited over the games and in reponse to the food and drinks."

Barcadia will run on a token-based system for the games, which cost £5 for 10 or £9 for 20 with one token per play.

This week Barcadia will be open Friday, 4pm to 12pm, Saturday 3pm to 12pm and Sunday 12pm to 8pm. The following weeks will be open Wednesday to Sunday, with hours yet to be consolidated, as they work around what customers need.

Under-18s will be permitted until 8pm to create a family-friendly environment during the day.
