Fire crews were called out to two buildings on the Norwich outskirts which were struck by lightning during a recent storm.

People reported homes shaking and car alarms being set off during the bad weather, which began after 5pm yesterday. (May 10).

One crew from Sprowston and one from Carrow attended reports of a building that had been struck by lightning on Edwards Road in Postwick at 8.18pm.

Fire crews made sure the premises was safe and the stop message was received at 8.43pm.

Earlier, at 6.40pm, one crew from Sprowston and one from Carrow attended another report of a building struck by lightning in Sprowston.

Fire crews investigated and made sure the site and surrounding area were safe. The stop was received at 7.11pm.

The property is believed to have been the Co-op on Cannerby Lane, where people around the area heard a loud noise.

It was the second day in a row in which thunderstorms had battered the county, with downpours causing flooding in Costessey, Dereham, Grimston and King's Lynn.

On Tuesday night, houses in Maze Avenue, Costessey were struck by lightning.
