The new head of Great Yarmouth police has pledged to keep the "exceptional" quality of policing for the borough.

Superintendent Craig Miller is still settling behind his desk at Great Yarmouth Police Station having taken over from Nathan Clark, who retired from the force last month.

The new police chief knows his patch well as he worked at Gorleston and Great Yarmouth Police Stations for 11 years from 2006, first as a sergeant then as an inspector.

As chief inspector he was then responsible for community safety across the region.

He said: "I think Great Yarmouth is a really diverse and close community.

"I think that is reflected by my police officers as they feel they are policing a very positive and strong community."

"We will continue to provide an exceptional service to the district that the public expect from us."

Supt Miller, 48, is already impressed by the work of partner agencies and bodies, such as Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

He is also focused on his officers engaging with communities as much as possible he also said that Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Police Stations will keep running.

Supt Miller has been in Norfolk Police for 23 years and started his career at Norwich's Mile Cross area.

His predecessor Nathan Clark had been head of Great Yarmouth Police for 18 months and had served 24 years in the police.

One of the last incidents he dealt with was the 250kg unexploded bomb that spectacularly detonated by the River Yare as it was being defused by army bomb disposal experts in February.

Supt Miller is also head of police for the North Norfolk police patch stretching from Cromer to Wells.
