Self build affordable homes could be built on part of a farm.
Heacham Land Ltd has applied for outline permission for eight new properties on the site of redundant buildings at Marea Farm, in Heacham.
A planning statement says a typical self build project will be cheaper than market housing, because its cost does not include the developer's profit margin.
It adds: "A self build project for an equivalent house, there is no 25pc developer margin.

"The finance costs are through a standard mortgage. If the self builder uses modern methods of construction eg kit of component types the construction phase is typically two months rather than 12 months."
The statement says the development would comprise low-rise three or four-bedroom homes on the site, off School Road. It adds there is demand for self build plots.
It goes on: "We all agree that we need to secure sufficient affordable housing for those in need.
"The provision of affordable housing to help meet the needs of its communities is the council's top priority."
