Community groups, charities and volunteering organisations have just a few days left to nominate their unsung heroes for a special Coronation honour at the Royal Norfolk Show.

The Community Champions Tribute will salute worthy volunteers from across the county in a massed gathering on June 28 in the show’s Grand Ring - where they will be addressed by the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, the Lady Dannatt.

Organisers said they are "delighted with the initial response" to the initiative, and now want to maximise nominations before the deadline next Friday, May 12.

Mark Nicholas, managing director of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, said: "Due to interest in the event we wish to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to take part in this unique tribute.

"Groups and organisations have been asked to nominate two individuals to take part.

"We recognise that some groups and organisations have volunteers supporting activities at multiple locations and we want to make it clear that community groups, charities and volunteering organisations may submit up to two nominations for each location they operate from.

"Examples include a charity operating from several locations in the county, including shops serviced by volunteers; youth organisations and cadet forces with adult volunteers operating at numerous detachments; and umbrella organisations with multiple branches or local clubs, such as Women’s Institute, Rotary and Lions clubs.

"The aim of the tribute is to say thank you to those who do so much for our communities and good causes."

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla have issued a Coronation message which says they are "enormously grateful to all the communities, families, neighbours and friends who are coming together across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth to mark our Coronation".

The royal message adds: "We greatly appreciate everyone’s efforts to organise such celebrations, and very much hope that they will be enjoyable and happy occasions."
