A major budget supermarket chain is investing more than £6m in Norfolk this year as part of its expansion plans.
Aldi is upgrading stores across the county in 2023 as part of a national strategy to chip away at the market share of its larger rivals.
Earlier this year, its branch in Fakenham was refurbished and reopened, while this autumn the chain will open a new outlet near the A47 in Norwich.
It is also building a new supermarket at the site of the former Norfolk Feather Company in Diss.
The chain is currently recruiting for 390 roles in Norfolk and for more than 1,000 jobs across its 11 regional distribution centres around the UK.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer, Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “We’ve been helping Britain find the best value for money when it comes to their food shop for more than 30 years, and the demand for our low prices is now higher than ever.
“We know however, that there are still areas that don’t have a store, or that need more or larger stores to meet increased customer demand.”
From July 1, 2023, starting pay for Aldi store assistants will increase to £11.40 per hour nationally. Aldi are the only UK supermarket to offer paid breaks.
