A pensioner has been left without a working TV aerial for almost six weeks
Doreen Vargerson has lived in her Horns Lane flat in NR1 for more than 30 years, but now the 89-year-old is finding it more lonely than ever before.
Though her daughter, Teresa Chittick, 69, tries to take her mum out as often as she can, Doreen still relies on her television to not feel so alone.
Teresa said: “The TV aerial has been broken before but they usually fix it within a week or so – but this time it has been different.

“My brother and I have called many times – and we were told it would be sorted out, but that was two weeks ago.
“We have phoned up several times since, but it is just impossible to get through and when you do, they never come back to you.”

But not everyone in Doreen's block has the same issue – other folk living in the flats have a Virgin box, or something similar so they are still able to watch television through the internet.
Teresa said: “She should not have to spend loads of money to get a box to watch TV when all she wants is the freeview channels.
“I am so lucky that my mum has all her faculties, but it is so hard to see her so down about this – it just feels like no one cares.

“Not having the ability to watch her TV makes it such a long day for her.
“I’m just getting so angry, the TV is her lifeline, it makes the flat seem less lonely.”
Teresa said she has been trying to contact the council for the past five weeks, and nothing is happening.
The council has been contacted for comment.
