The appointment of Norwich City Council’s £140,000 chief executive has been agreed.

Louise Rawsthorne, who stepped into the role of interim chief executive last month, has taken over the top job at City Hall on a permanent basis.

The appointment saw the unanimous support of councillors at a meeting on Friday.

Ms Rawsthorne said: “I feel really honoured to be stepping into the role of chief executive for our fine city.

“I really look forward to working with all of you and our committed colleagues and our partners.”

Ms Rawsthorne has been at the council since April 2021, when she headed up its resident-facing services.

The change comes after the departure of £156,000-a-year chief, Stephen Evans, who left the authority in March after a three-year stint at the helm.

Alan Waters, leader of the council, who proposed Ms Rawsthorne's appointment, said she would provide continuity while also understanding "the journey the council is going on".

Gail Harris, the deputy leader of the council, added the authority was “appointing the right person for the right job”.

The role has a salary range between £133,521 and £145,483 per year.
