A King’s Lynn townhouse will go under the hammer at auction next week, offering six bedrooms and bags of potential.

The three-storey property is located on King Street, which runs from Tuesday Market Place to Custom House. It is considered one of the oldest parts of the town and boasts a listed building every 26ft.

On a visit by train, the poet Sir John Betjeman said the street was part of one of the finest Georgian walks in England.

Now you could purchase a part of that history – possibly even at a bargain price.

The earliest part of the property is thought to be a 14th century hall house, which was altered in the 15th century and then more considerably since.

It is thought that the medieval merchant who owned it also used part of it as a shop.

Owing to its age and historical significance, the property is protected by Historic England and Grade II star-listed. Buildings of this classification make up just 5.8pc of all listed buildings, making it of particular historical and architectural interest.

The building is constructed of yellow brick with stone dressings and a tiled roof, and inside it still boasts a number of distinctive period features including what the listing details describe as “exceptional” fireplaces and wooden beams and panelling.

A spokesperson for selling agents Auction House East Anglia describes it as a “fascinating property” – although it is in need of refurbishment to bring it back to its former glory.

Outside, there is private parking for three cars.
