A Norfolk pub has won a major national award just six months after earning its first AA rosette for culinary excellence.

The Angel at Watlington, near King's Lynn, has been run by couple Emily Phipps and chef Richard Crouch since 2018.

As well as giving the pub a huge refurbishment when they took it on, its seasonal menu packed with local produce has proved a hit.

In October 2022, it earned its first AA rosette and it has just been named the UK Pub of the Year at the Innovation and Excellence Awards 2023.

The nominations are made by readers and contributors of Corporate LiveWire publications and a panel of judges picks the winner in each category.

Ms Phipps said: "We are absolutely delighted as all the team has worked so hard to drive the pub through such a turbulent time.

"With a full refurbishment planned later this year, we want to continue driving The Angel forward."

It also reached the finals in the best chef and best food categories at the Great British Pub Awards 2022.
