A city venue has launched a new afternoon tea featuring delicious sweet shop-themed treats. 

Mark Mitson, head of pastry at The Assembly House, has created an array of cakes guaranteed to give you that nostalgic feeling.

The afternoon tea is available at the Theatre Street venue from Monday, April 24, to Friday, June 30.

The tea includes a 'Fruit Salad Macaron' and a coconut and mango flavoured 'Fried Egg Biscuit'.

A dessert, called the 'Triple Chocolate Jazzie Gateau Opera', has layers of chocolate cake, white chocolate buttercream and hundreds and thousands.

The tiered tea also includes savoury bites. 

Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free versions of the tea are available if pre-booked and the Cakeaway Takeaway is bookable by phone up to a month in advance.

In December, The Assembly House was named among the top 100 restaurants in the UK by OpenTable.

The Sweet Shop Afternoon Tea costs £29.50 per person and children’s afternoon tea for under-12s is £17.95 for a smaller version.
