An HSBC branch in a coastal town is set to close down for good tomorrow.

The banking giant is to close its Cromer branch due to the higher usage of online and digital banking. 

HSBC announced its plans to close five of its branches across Norfolk and Suffolk last year stating that some of those closing were serving fewer than 250 people a week.

Other branches on the list include Fakenham, Norwich Mile Cross, Wymondham and Beccles. 

The bank said it is investing tens of millions of pounds in updating and improving its remaining branch network, which will total 327 after the new wave of closures.

Mayor of Cromer Pat West described the closure as a "great disappointment". 

A campaign was launched to save the bank with Duncan Baker, North Norfolk MP, saying he planned to meet with representatives from the bank to make a case for the branch to remain open. 

Jackie Uhi, HSBC UK's managing director of UK distribution, said: "People are changing the way they bank and footfall in many branches is at an all-time low, with no signs of it returning. Banking remotely is becoming the norm for the vast majority of us."
