More than a dozen residents have been withdrawn from a Norfolk care home after safety concerns were uncovered by council bosses.

Norfolk Council Council has opted to find alternative placements for 17 people that were living in The Mount care home in Aylsham.

And the home in Heydon Road, is now facing an uncertain future after further worries were identified by the Care Quality Commission - full details of which will be published in due course.

The home, which is run by Sunrise Care Ltd, is currently registered to provide care for up to 22 residents.

It is a single-sex facility for men only and largely cares for residents over 65 with mental health support needs.

However, after bosses at County Hall were made aware of concerns around how it was being managed, more than a dozen of its residents were removed from its care.

Tim Weller, head of Norfolk County Council's integrated quality service, said: "Following concerns identified by Norfolk County Council in February 2023, the owner was required to address leadership, risk and safety at The Mount.

"An inspection by the Care Quality Commission in March identified insufficient improvement and the council took to decision to find alternative accommodation for the 17 residents funded by the council.

"All 17 had transferred to alternative accommodation by April 7."

The CQC had previously rated the home as good across the board, at an inspection carried out in July 2019.

However, inspectors from the watchdog conducted its latest assessment on March 15 - the outcome of which is due to be published in due course.

Previously though, the home had struggled to meet the CQC's standards and had previously been rated as inadequate in 2017.

Sunrise Care Homes, which also runs The Orchards home in Bradwell, has been approached for comment.
