Two teenagers celebrated while re-enacting a knockout punch that left a man with serious brain injuries, a court has heard.
Achilles Lawrence Gate’te and Codie Marjoram, both 19, are on trial accused of “joint enterprise” following a series of violent incidents in the early hours of March 19 last year.
One of the victims, David Constant, had to have part of his skull removed to save his life after being punched to the ground following an altercation in St Vedast Street, just off Prince of Wales Road.
Nightclub CCTV less than 30 minutes after the attack shown at Norwich Crown Court captured the pair laughing and hugging while Gate’te acted out being punched with a gesture indicating the victim had been knocked out.
Will Carter, prosecuting, said witnesses had also seen the pair in the minutes after the attack running away and described how they appeared to be celebrating.
Under cross examination, Gate’te said: “We were celebrating the fact that we hadn’t got injured and had come away from an altercation and were going to continue a night out.”
Gate'te, who blames Marjoram for the punch to Mr Constant, has said he was “absolutely gutted” when told of the severity of his injuries.
But the court has heard he sent a text after the attack stating "we killing people".
Mr Carter said on the same night Gate’te had also threatened to “smash up” a kebab shop worker and “smack the s***” out of a female nightclub cloakroom attendant.
Gate'te, of Cunningham Road, Norwich, denies one count of causing grievous bodily harm and an offence of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
He has also denied five counts of assault by beating against five other victims.
Marjoram, of Calthorpe Road, Norwich, has denied one count of causing grievous bodily harm and one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm as well as denying assaulting three others.
The trial continues.
