A heritage railway is getting 'back on track' following an emergency closure after part of its line had become unusable.
The Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR) will reopen on April 29 with trains running from Dereham station to Thuxton - a 12-mile round trip to the newly rebuilt station that is planned to fully open this year.
Earlier this year the railway launched the ‘Back on Track’ emergency appeal to help fund restoration work after it was found part of its track had deteriorated so much it could no longer be used.
Charlie Robinson, the chairman of MNR said: “We are all excited and also relieved to be running services again.
“The last few years have been difficult, but the hard work is beginning to pay off. There is still lots to do and I am pleased to say the Back on Track appeal has got off to an excellent start with £15,000 raised in the first few weeks.
“There is lots more to raise before the key issue of the bridge at Crownthorpe can be tackled and the eventual return to Wymondham."
Trains will run on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with tickets available on the day from Dereham Station.
The following Coronation weekend will see trains run on Sunday and an extra bank holiday Monday. The station buffet will be open for hot and cold food and drinks.
The station has free car parking and a 'kids go free' promotion with a paying adult will run throughout the year.
‘Breckland Fryer’ fish and chip trains will also return on some Saturday evenings.
The railway will announce details of this year's Polar Express service soon.
