Lowestoft: Nathaniel Baldry jailed for Bristol attack

Nathaniel Baldry, of St John’s Road, Kirkley, Lowestoft, was on a night out in Bristol with university friends in February last year when he carried out the “completely unprovoked” attack, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Gareth Hughes, prosecuting, said the victim had fallen to his knees after being punched by someone else and then saw Baldry’s foot coming towards his face.

As a result of the attack one of his teeth was knocked out, another was chipped and he suffered a broken jaw.

Baldry admitted unlawful wounding and separate charges of being concerned in the supply of cannabis between July 2018 and November last year and possessing criminal property, namely £34,000 cash.

Jailing him for a total of 46 months, Judge Emma Peters said Baldry had been visiting his sister in student accommodation in Bristol when they bumped into the victim, who had previously been in a relationship with his sister.

Judge Peters said there were some issues with the way the victim had treated Baldry’s sister and in his statement to the police the victim conceded there were “some failings” in his behaviour towards her.

However, Judge Peters said that nothing the victim had done justified Baldry’s loss of temper and the way he behaved towards the victim.

She said he’d kicked the victim twice and had tried to get to him again while he was lying on the ground.

Mr Hughes told the court that in November last year police found £34,000 cash in backpacks at Baldry’s home.

A mobile phone belonging to him was downloaded and was found to contain messages relating to his involvement in the supply of cannabis.

Andrew Thompson, for Baldry, said his client accepted the attack in Bristol was “unacceptable”.
