A witness has described hearing the noise when a man hit the concrete after being attacked by teenagers in the city, a court has heard.
The man had been out in Norwich when he saw part of an attack on David Constant who suffered serious brain injuries after being punched in St Vedast Street.
Achilles Lawrence Gate’te and Codie Marjoram, both 19, are on trial at Norwich Crown Court accused of a “joint enterprise” to commit acts of violence against people in the early hours of March 19 last year.
On Thursday (March 30) jurors heard evidence from the witness who had been out with friends at the time.
He had been with his friends but could see "something was happening" over the road.
He said: "I saw the person get hit."
He said he heard "the noise it made" when he "hit the concrete".
He told Will Carter, prosecuting, that he saw one of the other people who were punched "get back to his feet" as well as seeing others trying to help the first lad who was hit.
He said they had been "trying to lift him up off the floor but they couldn't".
In cross examination, Jonathan Goodman, defending Gate'te, asked the witness if he could say which one of the two defendants "did the punching".
He replied: "No."
John Morgans, defending Marjoram, said that after the initial incident "something happens" and both defendants come back.
He asked the man whether, because of the distance he was away, "could something have been said which you didn't hear?"
He said: "Yes."
Gate'te, of Cunningham Road, Norwich, has denied one count of causing grievous bodily harm and an offence of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
He has also denied five counts of assault by beating against five other victims.
Marjoram, of Calthorpe Road, Norwich, has denied one count of causing grievous bodily harm and one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm as well as denying assaulting three others.
The trial continues.
