A bid to install a 52m high ride on Great Yarmouth's seafront has been recommended for approval by planners.

If approved by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, the Star Flyer will stand on the Golden Mile at South Beach Gardens by the Sealife Centre and Ferris Wheel.

The applicant William Abbott also runs the observation wheel.

If approved the ride, a mostly metal structure, would boast 16 individual passenger capsules that seat two people each over a three year period.

A report to be discussed at the borough council's development control committee on Wednesday night recommends approval and states: "The proposed star flyer would be a tall and prominent feature within the sky line of Great Yamouth and would be visible from beyond the town due to the flat landscape of the town and The Broads beyond."

It adds: "It is considered that the proposal will provide an attraction which will improve the overall visitor appeal of the town."

The report adds the economic benefits outweigh the ‘less than substantial’ harm caused to the surrounding designated heritage assets.
