Drivers were caught speeding and warned over wheel-spinning ‘doughnuts’ after police took action against a huge gathering of car enthusiasts.

Police said the car meet consisted of between 100-150 vehicles that travelled around south Norfolk including stops in Long Stratton, Harleston, Diss, Costessey, Hellesdon, Bowthorpe and Sprowston.

Reports from the public included complaints about loudly revving engines, cones being placed on the road ready for racing and wheel spinning.

Officers issued one traffic offence report for excessive speed and a Section 59 driving in a careless or inconsiderate manner warning for ‘doughnuts’.

The number plates of other drivers displaying anti-social behaviour were recorded for retrospective action.

The action followed an operation in February during which 43 traffic offence reports were issued in one night for anti-social behaviour during a car meet.

In a tweet police said: “We’d like to thank all those who reported anti-social behaviour by vehicles in a large group over the weekend; your timely calls meant our officers could respond quickly and work on engaging and educating the attendees.”
