An inquest had opened into the death of a man whose body part was discovered on a Norfolk beach.
A body part belonging to Colin Wood, 53, was found washed up on a beach close to Wellington Pier in Great Yarmouth last year.
A fisherman made the grim discovery during the early hours of Wednesday, May 4.
The recovered remains were taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, before officers carried out DNA tests. Norfolk Constabulary launched an investigation shortly after.
Assistant coroner, Samantha Goward, opened the inquest at Norfolk Coroner’s Court at County Hall, Norwich, on Wednesday, March 2023.
She explained that Mr Wood’s mother, Susan Wood, confirmed that her son was born on April 15, 1969, in Scotland.
At the time of his death, he did not have a permeant address but is believed to have been staying in the Great Yarmouth area. He was also known to the Adult Mental Health Service.
The cause of death is currently described as “unascertained”. A full inquest will take place on Wednesday, November 1.
