A woman has died after eating mushrooms, an inquest has heard.

Assistant coroner, Samantha Goward, opened the hearing into the death of Dorota Paskevic on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 15.

The court heard that the body of Miss Paskevic, 33, of The Common in Dunston, near Norwich, was identified by staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (N&N).

Friend and interpreter for the family, Sergey Saprgyn, confirmed that she was born in Vilnius in Lithuania on August 9, 1989, and that she was currently unemployed.

Speaking at the inquest opening, held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court at County Hall, Norwich, Ms Goward said Miss Paskevic arrived at the N&N on February 28, 2023, after becoming unconscious from eating mushrooms.

She did not regain consciousness and died at the hospital three day later on March 3.

The postmortem revealed the medical cause of death was hypoxic brain injury following psilocybin overdose.

The inquest has been adjourned and will take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 2pm.
