A former science teacher convicted of producing pornographic images of children he knew has been banned from returning to the classroom.

Roderick Stevenson, who worked at Ormiston Victory Academy for two decades, has been convicted of five offences relating to child pornography - including three counts of making indecent images of children.

Mr Stevenson's offences included possessing images of children he knew, and saw the 64-year-old handed a suspended jail sentence.

Now, following a misconduct hearing, the retired teacher has been banned from returning to the profession.

The panel heard that Mr Stevenson began working at the Costessey school in 1999, as a science teacher, before leaving in 2013.

He then returned in 2014 as cover support before taking up a full-time role as a science technician in 2018.

In March 2019, he was arrested and suspended from the school, before tendering his resignation a month later.

He was convicted of the child pornography offences at Norwich Crown Court on August 17, 2021, and sentenced later that year. He admitted to all charges brought against him.

The report reads: "The panel considered that this conviction was a particularly serious one.

"It noted there was an element of production and that Mr Stevenson knew the children depicted in some of the images - albeit some years ago.

"It is apparent that Mr Stevenson's offending took place over a considerable period of time."

The report adds that while Mr Stevenson had been seeking therapy, he had not shown remorse for his crimes.

A spokesman for the Ormiston Academies Trust, said: "Whilst these matters were not related to the academy, as soon as we were made aware in 2019, we took immediate action to suspend the individual, working closely with the authorities to support their investigation and carefully following all necessary procedures and advice, as well as continuing to implement the robust safeguarding measures we have in place."
