A four-bedroom farmhouse set in over 30 acres of land has come up for sale in Flordon near Long Stratton for offers over £1,000,000.
Mill Farm, which is for sale with TW Gaze, was formerly a miller's house and originally had a working mill attached to its side.
The mill was one of few in Norfolk to use an overshot wheel, a type of wheel that can only be built when there is a significant water drop. At Flordon, the water drop was 17ft.
Its water power was supplemented by steam during the latter years of its life, and in 1900 it ceased production entirely. It later became derelict and was demolished in the 1920s.
A spokesperson for TW Gaze describes it as a “good-looking house needing updating”, and the property and its outbuildings offer huge potential for renovation and refurbishment.
Much of its original character, including fireplaces, doors and generous ceiling heights, still remain – although it does require substantial work to bring it back to its former glory.
The main house has a sitting room, living room and kitchen on the ground floor, as well as a bathroom and two separate hallways.
Upstairs there are four good-sized bedrooms, including two with built-in wardrobes, and a family bathroom with a panelled bath.
Outside, a range of smallholding buildings are located near the house, providing useful storage, and there is also a smaller barn.
According to a spokesperson for selling agent TW Gaze, an architect has been employed to explore the possibility of converting some of the barns into residential use, but the outcome is yet to be determined.
The property and barns are set in approximately 31 acres of grassland and water meadows, which are described by TW Gaze as a “pretty haven for wildlife.”
A reservoir has also been dug in one of the fields to allow irrigation to the surrounding land, and is fed by natural springs.
