The man arrested outside a school on suspicion of stalking has been named as its headteacher.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the man, who was detained outside Howard Junior School in King's Lynn on Monday, March 6 and later released on bail until May 10.

But he has now been named by multiple sources as Gregory Hill, who has been its head for 10 years.

The school, on the Parkway in Gaywood, has so far declined to comment, saying all enquiries must be directed to the police.

Norfolk police have said only that a man had been arrested on suspicion of stalking another adult.

Mr Hill has given the school a high profile during his tenure.

He renamed it Harry Kane Junior School after the England captain during the recent World Cup in Qatar.

He said the change would be permanent if England won the tournament, while Mr Kane said he would visit it if the Three Lions lifted the trophy.

The school also made headlines around the world after Mr Hill and pupils spoke to the Prince and Princess of Wales, when they visited Sandringham last September to see flowers and tributes which had been left at the gates after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Princess comforted an eight-year-old student as she laid a toy corgi.

In January, Howard Junior was named as an Apple Distinguished School by the tech giant for its use of its products in the classroom.

The school was rated 'good' at its last Ofsted inspection.

The Department for Education said: "As this is an ongoing police investigation it would be inappropriate for the department to comment.

"We are working directly with Howard Junior School and the local authority to support the school at this time."
