A cyclist who died following an early morning crash in Watton has been named. 

An inquest into the death of Dominique Avinido Hechanova was opened at Norfolk's Coroner's Court at County Hall, Norwich, on Friday, March 10. 

Speaking in court, the senior coroner for Norfolk, Jacqueline Lake, revealed that Mr Hechanova was 39 years old and lived at Merton Road, Watton.

The collision happened on the B1108 Brandon Road at 5.30am on Wednesday, March 1 and also involved a grey Peugeot 3008. 

Mr Hechanova died at the scene and the medical cause of death was confirmed as a base to the skull fracture due to a road traffic collision. 

A man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. 

Following the crash, the road was closed by the emergency services for several hours and an air ambulance attended to those at the scene.

Mr Hechanova was the second cyclist to have been killed on Norfolk’s roads within 48 hours

It followed the death of Ben Steward, who died following an accident while he was riding on Norwich’s outer ring road at Earlham on Monday, February 27. 

An inquest to determine the official cause of death by the coroner is due to take place later in the year.  

In a statement to the court, the Embassy of the Philippines confirmed that Mr Hechanova was born in the Philippines on September 12, 1983. He was employed as a butcher.
