Scammers pretending to be a bank security department have been telling Norfolk victims they have been the victim of “suspicious cash movements”.

Norfolk Trading Standards have warned people to be on alert for the bogus bank calls that led to people being asked to transfer money.

It comes after they received reports of fraudsters switching between different numbers as they claim to be from banks.

“The recent report targeted a resident requesting him to send money to a bank account after the caller said there were a couple of suspicious cash movements,” they said.

The male caller asked for a transaction of £132 which alerted the resident who terminated the call. He was targeted again using a different number and also with a number withheld.

A spokesman said: “We always advise people to be very wary of claims made during telephone cold calls. If you receive this or a similar call our advice is: do not interact with the call and hang up.”

Anyone suspicious of a cold call scam can report it via the Citizens Advice consumer helpline, on 0808 223 1133.
