It is the end of an era as a city centre café popular with locals and students alike has announced it will close this month.

Artel first opened at the top of London Street in September 2018, serving a range of coffees, cakes and brunch dishes.

The business first launched in 2015 and began as a tiny café in Wensum Street with six seats, which is now Fika, under its original owner Kieran Harper.

He sold the business a while ago and it has changed hands a number of times since, with mystery buyers purchasing it in November 2022.

Artel has also become a hub for the city's thriving art community and local artist Ed Le May holds drink and draw sessions on Saturdays, which will relocate to a new place.

Artel confirmed on its Instagram story that it will be shutting on Sunday, February 26, with no reason given at present. 

It follows the recent closures of Frank's Bar in Bedford Street, Oliver's Bar in Unthank Road and The York in Leicester Street amid the cost of living crisis.
