Neighbours fear sleepless nights after a fast-food pizza giant was given permission to stay open until the early hours.

A bid for Papa Johns on Colman Road to stay open for deliveries until 4am has been given the go-ahead by City Hall, meaning the store will close almost five hours later than it does now.

It was granted despite impassioned pleas from neighbours to reject it, with many fearing the extra noise would keep them awake.

Ahead of a licensing committee meeting, eight neighbours wrote to Norwich City Council to object to the plans, while one wrote in support.

An objector said: “I strongly object to this and am horrified at such a proposal.

“In these very difficult times, people need their sleep and peace, not the noisy activity that would ensue.

“Consider the people who live nearby who would certainly suffer.”

Fears were also raised that it would mean other shops along the parade, which includes a Dominos and Chinese takeaway, would follow suit, making things even worse for locals.

A letter by Manzoor Hussain, the owner of the business, insisted the extended hours would not be a disturbance.

“With extended hours we can assure you it won’t make any negative impact on the local residents due to noise," he said.

“We do not provide dine-in services so there is no chance of nuisance.”

Mr Hussain also said the flat above the shop is also owned by him and the one person living there works in the shop during the new hours.

While councillors approved the scheme, they put in place a condition meaning delivery drivers could not park at the back of the property and must enter and exit through the front of the shop.Eastern Daily Press: Eaton councillor, Judith Lubbock, objected to the extended hoursEaton councillor, Judith Lubbock, objected to the extended hours (Image: ARCHANT EASTERN DAILY PRESS (01603) 772434)

Eaton ward councillor Judith Lubbock, who supported the neighbours at the meeting, said she was "extremely disappointed" at the decision, branding it "unbelievable".
