The death of a Norwich businessman came "totally out of the blue" to his beloved husband, an inquest has heard.

Martyn Hagon, who owned Jackias Curtain, Blinds and Interiors, took his own life last year at the age of 48.

An inquest into his death heard he kept his struggles hidden from everyone close to him - including Paul Hagon, his partner of more than 20 years.

In a statement, Paul said: "He was a lovely man -  so laid back he was horizontal.

"We would never argue - it was me doing the arguing as he never talked back to me.

"Everything seemed okay, the weekend before we went to Hunstanton ate sausage and chips and played on the 2p machines - it was a lovely day."

The inquest heard that the couple had been together for more than 20 years and had married in 2013.

The pair ran an interior design business together, owning sister shops. Martyn ran the store in Boundary Road, Hellesdon, while Paul ran one in Harleston.

But on August 2, Martyn was found dead in a Cavell Road garage.

His husband added: "It came totally out of the blue and hit me like a sledgehammer.

"I have been racking my brains every since trying to work out what could have happened - but I just do not know."

Martyn died of carbon monoxide poisoning, with area coroner Yvonne Blake concluding his death was suicide.

Mrs Blake said: "There was no indication from Mr Hagon to anyone that his mental health was not good."
