Two men charged over the murder of a 23-year-old who was stabbed to death have appeared in court.

Junior Suleimane, 21, is accused of murdering Felizardo Jose Viera-Balde on February 8 on St Peters Road in Great Yarmouth.

He also faces a charge of possessing a knife in a public place.

Portuguese national Jaimes Santos, 43, of Nelson Road South, Great Yarmouth, has been charged with assisting an offender.

Both men appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Monday for separate initial court appearances lasting less than 10 minutes.

They spoke only to confirm their names and details, with Santos communicating through an interpreter.

Neither man entered a plea at the hearing which was attended by a large number of family members.

Magistrates were told the pair had both been arrested at Leeds bus station in West Yorkshire on Friday night after Norfolk police had identified them and circulated their details to other forces as part of a national wanted appeal.

Police were called to the location, close to the seafront, shortly after 12.40pm where Felizardo was found collapsed in nearby Wellington Road where he later died of his injuries.

Josephine Jones, prosecuting, told the court the fatal stabbing had been captured on CCTV footage.

Santos was accused of helping Suleimane, of Market Place in Great Yarmouth, to discard clothing and a weapon and to flee the scene.

Magistrates remanded him in custody until a hearing at Norwich Crown Court on March 13 after hearing there were “substantial grounds” that he would fail to appear given the seriousness of the charge and his lack of local links.

Suleimane was remanded pending appearing at Norwich Crown Court on February 14.

The murder has left local people in shock after the fatal attack happened in broad daylight just yards from Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile.

A 21-year-old man arrested in Loddon on Saturday was questioned and released on bail until May 11 pending further enquiries.
