An award-winning pub with rooms has been named the best place in the UK for a foodie escape.
The Gunton Arms in north Norfolk, which recently featured in Estrella Damm's top 50 gastropubs list, is in the February 2023 edition of the Waitrose Food Magazine.
It is included in a round-up of the best hideaways, where a warm welcome is guaranteed and "the food is as good as the scenery".
The Gunton Arms, set in an 18th-century 1,000-acre deer park, is declared the best for a foodie break.
It said: "The kitchen is famed for its meats -venison from the surrounding fields and beef from a local herd, roasted over open flames in the resplendent Elk Room."
It continued: "As you'd expect the food is thoroughly satisfying: a buttery soft red deer rump offset by cavolo nero spiked with chilli, garlic and orange zest, deep-fried monkfish cheeks with caper and dill mayo and a spit and roasted Cromer lobster with rocket salad."
Art dealer Ivor Braka bought the building in 2009 and converted a country house hotel into a traditional pub, with works from the likes of Tracey Emin and Damien Hurst on display.
