A father accused of murdering his wife's new partner threatened to kill a woman who had made accusations against his son in an earlier attack, a court has heard.

Wayne Peckham, 49, and son Riley Peckham, 23, have gone on trial at Norwich Crown Court having both denied the murder of Matthew Rodwell.

The 39-year-old died at the home of Wayne's wife Kerry - with whom he was in a relationship - in Bulrush Avenue, Downham Market, on January 23 last year.

Eastern Daily Press:

The trial has heard that just weeks before the murder the father and son were involved in another incident, during which Wayne Peckham threatened to kill Georgia Daniels at her boyfriend's home in Downham Market.

It came shortly after Ms Daniels and her partner Max Hudson - who both knew Riley - had seen him in the town's Tesco on December 4, 2021, when she had called him a "rapist".

Giving evidence on Tuesday (January 31) Ms Daniels said: "When I first saw Wayne he grabbed me by the throat and pushed me up against a car so my feet were off the ground.

"He was just shouting at me.

"I was shouting at him to get off.

"He said 'don't call my son a rapist' and 'don't say these things about my son'.

"He said if I say these things he will kill me."

Eastern Daily Press:

The jury of seven men and five women heard Riley and his father had turned up at Mr Hudson's home after the exchange in Tesco, during which Riley had "got quite angry".

Ms Daniels and Mr Hudson had returned home and were sitting on the sofa together when "Riley came through the back door" and "started wrestling with Max".

She told Riel Karmy-Jones KC, prosecuting, her boyfriend had been trying to "get him out" before Riley's father appeared.

Ms Daniels described it as a "really scary" incident.

As well as murder, Wayne Peckham, of Manby Close, Hilgay, near Downham, has denied assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Kerry Peckham on January 23 last year.

He has also denied two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and another offence of assault by beating in relation to the incident at Downham Market on December 4, 2021.

Riley Peckham, also of Manby Close, has denied murder as well as assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to the December incident.

The trial continues.
