Sewing machines will be humming when a Norfolk haberdashery attempts a 12-hour 'sew-a-thon' to make medical supplies.

Sarah Jane's in Dereham will take on the challenge to make as many syringe driver bags as possible on March 16.

Sewers at the Cuthbert Court shop will be busy from 9am to 9pm making carry bags for the drivers, which are small, battery-powered pumps that deliver medication through a needle.

Ms Jane, the shop's owner, said: “The need for these bags was brought to my attention by a friend and I thought why make a couple when we could make hundreds?”

She appealed for fabric donations to make the bags, but instead received offers of money to make the material.

Ms Jane has also set up a GoFundMe to help cover the costs.

The haberdashery owner has also uploaded a step-by-step video on how people can make these bags at home - which can be added to the donation.

Ms Jane said anyone interested was also welcome to turn up on the day to take part.
