A Norwich pub has announced it is on the brink of closing due to "ongoing financial pressures".

Owners of The York Tavern, in Leicester Street, announced the closure of the kitchen on social media describing the last two years as "extremely tough". 

But bosses said they will struggle on opening the bar for fewer hours each week and attempt to find new landlords.

Andrew McNeil, and his wife Anna took over the Golden Triangle pub in 2019 despite a community group trying to buy it. 

In a post on Instagram Mr McNeil said: "We would first like to say a huge thank you to all our loyal followers, supporters and regulars over the last three plus years, it’s been an absolute pleasure to serve, chat and laugh with you all.

"Thank you so much for the great memories.

"However, it’s also been an extremely tough, exhausting and strange (to say the least) couple of years, and we’ve all been through so much.

"Due to the ongoing financial pressures of running a business, we have sadly reached the very hard decision that it is no longer possible for us to continue with The York."

The pub's kitchen will close on Sunday, January 29 after one final roast.

However, the bar will remain open for drinks between 3pm and 11pm from Wednesday to Fridays and then 12pm to 11pm on Saturdays and 12pm to 8pm on Sundays. 

The news comes on the same day that Frank's Bar announced it would be closing after 15 years. 

Mr McNeil added: "The exact dates for handover are still to be confirmed, but will keep you all posted with any developments and look forward to someone taking over this fantastic pub.

"Lastly I would like to thank our staff for all their efforts over the years, I truly believe we have a great team that has always looked after all our customers to the highest level and have supported me all the way."
