A Norfolk fruit farm wants to relocate some of its polytunnels to make way for new solar panels to help it cut its carbon footprint.
Plans have been submitted to cover almost four acres of land at Church Farm in Tunstead, near Coltishall, with 1,900 panels.
The scheme will generate power to help the farm grow soft fruits, by heating food-growing tunnels, as well as allowing it to process and freeze products.
The space is currently used by polytunnels, which would be demolished and relocated elsewhere on the site, meaning there will be no long-term loss of any growing space.
A planning statement submitted to North Norfolk District Council said: “The applicant wishes to develop renewable energy and to move towards a position where it can meet its own energy needs, reducing reliance upon the National Grid, reduce the company’s carbon footprint and move towards greener technology and a lower carbon economy.”
