A fun charity ploughing day this weekend will raise cash for bowel cancer research in memory of a former Norfolk publican and vintage farm machine enthusiast.

The Norfolk Ploughing Society is holding the event in Cawston, near Reepham, from 10am on Sunday, January 8.

It will raise funds for Bowel Research UK, a charity chosen in memory of former society chairman Keith Raynes, who died last February.

The vintage enthusiast, who lived in Themelthorpe with his wife Jane, was also a popular publican in Reepham.

Society president Stewart Bunting, of Manor Farm in Skeyton, said it was an "instant and unanimous" decision to raise money in honour of this "larger than life character".

About 60 ploughmen and women have already registered for the charity event, which is open to the public and will feature a wide range of vintage tractors and ploughs.

It is being held at Quebec Farm, on Buxton Road, Cawston, NR10 4HW, in a field provided by MA and HV Medlar.

The Norfolk Ploughing Society was formed in 2002 and has raised thousands of pounds for charities, as well as supporting Norfolk competitors to plough at national and international levels.
