Porridge was nowhere to be seen on the festive menu at Norfolk prisons but inmates did have the option of a traditional turkey dinner.
While most of us shared Christmas Day with family and friends, many were spending it alone behind bars, but that didn’t mean they were without a good meal.
All three of Norfolk’s prisons had special Christmas menus including festive favourite foods.
HMP Norwich inmates had the option of roast turkey and stuffing, roast beef and horseradish or spiced halal chicken leg with roast potatoes, sprouts and peas, while vegetarians were offered broccoli and cheese lattice.
There was also the chance for the 718 prisoners to tuck into Christmas pudding and custard.
HMP Wayland’s 711 inmates were served up roast chicken rather than turkey with veggie options of nut roast and cranberry and cheese parcels, followed by Christmas pudding.
Meanwhile at HMP Bure options included roast turkey and stuffing, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with roast and new potatoes and sprouts.
There was a choice of Christmas pudding and sauce or a fresh pear for its 618 prisoners.
