A cat and her five kittens were rescued from a cold and dirty loft after a tenant heard them through the ceiling.
The feline family was discovered in the loft space of a property near Britannia Pier in Great Yarmouth.
It is believed the cat had got in through a hole in the roof - located up a flight of metal stairs at the back of the building.
And with nowhere else to go, it was the safest place for her to keep her litter of kittens.
Tenants in the building say this is the second litter they have discovered.
But East Coast Pet Rescue had to be called after the building's landlord said he would not allow food to be put up in the loft.
Sarah Evans, co-founder of the rescue based in the Great Yarmouth area, said: "I got a call from a member of the public who said there was a cat and kittens in the loft - which is about four floors up.
"They were really worried about them. It was really cold and they couldn't feed them.
"The landlord was also threatening to block the hole up.
"We went to the property and the people were lovely but the building was really cold and dirty.
"Luckily they had managed to contain the kittens, so we were able to get them down one at a time and we persuaded mum to come out with food."
Despite the conditions they had been living in, both the cat and her kittens appeared to be in relatively good health.
Ms Evans said mum is "very sweet" and "affectionate" but the kittens are a little nervous.
She added: "All the kittens were dusty and dirty, but mum had done a really good job caring for them considering.
"I would say they are about five to six weeks old and mum is two or three.
"She must have been owned by someone before - but she had no microchip and she hasn't been neutered."
The cat and one of her kittens have already been reserved and will be heading to their new home together in the new year.
The four other kittens will also be up for adoption in January.
