More than a week of overnight closures are planned on the A11 as a major £60m construction scheme continues.

The closures will affect parts of the northbound and southbound carriageways starting from December 9, with the last day of disruptions expected on December 18.

A National Highways spokesperson said this is to "prepare the A11 carriageway for a forthcoming traffic management switch".

It will follow the completion of reconstruction work on the northbound carriageway.

The reconstruction scheme, from Spooner Row to the Tuttles Lane interchange at Wymondham, has been affecting traffic since it began around April this year.

Here are the overnight road closures from 8pm each evening until 6am the following day:

The A11 heading southbound from Thickthorn to Attleborough will close overnight from December 9 to December 11.

From December 12 to December 14, the A11 will close heading northbound from Attleborough to Thickthorn.

On December 15 and December 16, the road will close southbound from Thickthorn to Attleborough.

Also, on December 15 and December 16, the Tuttles Lane interchange southbound exit slip-road and the B1135 will close overnight.

Finally, on December 17 and December 18, the A11 will close southbound from Thickthorn to Attleborough.

Diversion routes will be in place during the overnight closures.

When the northbound closures are in place, traffic will be diverted along the A1066 at Thetford, before travelling eastbound on the A140 and then northbound towards the A47.

At the A47 junction, drivers will join the A47 westbound to Thickthorn, joining the A140 and then the A1066 towards Thetford, before rejoining the A11.
