A city centre coffee shop will be allowed to serve alcohol despite concerns from neighbours it will create a noise nuisance.
The Yard Coffee, in Orford Yard, off Red Lion Street, has been given the go-ahead to serve drinks, including in a courtyard space shared with restaurant business, Go Bifanas.
Nick Backhouse, an objector representing Westlegate Tower Residents Association, said he and other tenants were happy with the building's current use but had concerns about noise from possible events.
Speaking to Norwich City Council's licensing committee, an agent for the applicant insisted the plans would not add to the current noise level.
He said: “Please don’t think this will be an addition of people because there are only so many people you can get in that area. There are no extra tables and chairs going in, it’s a shared space."
He also offered a condition ensuring the coffee shop could not be hired for corporate events and that no live music would be played at the premises.
The licence was granted unanimously by the committee.
