The Norfolk Workshop, a producer of bespoke kitchens, furniture and wooden mouldings, has almost doubled the size of its premises to meet increased workload.

The company, founded by Marc Cushing in 2001, has taken on a second unit at the North Norfolk Business Centre in Northrepps, near Cromer, taking its total square footage from 3,000 to 5,500.

“We were already manufacturing on site, but the size of our existing unit only allowed us to deliver one large project at a time – and maybe some other smaller projects around it,” said operations manager Darren Frost.

“Now we're able to manufacture a large kitchen, large dressing room and a utility room, for example, so we can have three large projects running in tandem.”

The business has also recruited Sonia Last to look after PR, marketing and graphic design, in addition to cabinet maker Adam Leeks.

The new unit also allows for another cabinet maker, should workload increase further, said Darren.

“We’ve had a fairly bumper year – turnover has increased 40-45pc,” he explained. “Two years ago, we closed the year at £290,000; this year we should close at about £550,000, if not a little more.

“We’re hopeful for £700,000-750,000 next year – the order books are full for the first half of the year, and we are still taking enquiries for the latter part of the year.”

The Norfolk Workshop works on domestic properties in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and London. Recent projects include Marsh House in Wells-next-the-Sea, the Grade II listed former home of Lord Nelson.
