A new £11.3m development of nearly 60 homes, for older people who want to continue to live independently, has been officially opened.

The first tenants of Saffron Housing Trust’s new Swallowtail Place scheme in Acle will be moving in within weeks.

The complex of 58 apartments, built on the site of the former Herondale care home, is for over 55s with care needs.

The development has been funded and developed in partnership with Norfolk County Council and Homes England.

Care support will be provided by NorseCare, which is owned by the county council.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently to mark the opening of the development.

James Francis, chief executive officer at Saffron, said: "We are excited to officially open the doors to the public and show them the fantastic new apartments and facilities.

"The first tenants will also be moving in during the next few weeks which is a great demonstration of positive partnership working."
