A Norwich crematorium has welcomed a stunning new addition to its grounds.

St Faith's Crematorium, in Horsham St Faith, has unveiled a magnificent wooden sculpture of two owls thanks to the efforts of Matt Darge, from Hockering, and Rick Parfitt.

The chainsaw artists were called in after a storm-damaged cedar tree had to be cut down for safety reasons in February.

The tree was memorialised in 1992 in memory of local florist, Tony Teasel.

Debbie Leah, business leader at St Faith’s Crematorium, said: "It was heartbreaking to see such a beautiful tree so storm damaged.

"We made the decision as a team to turn what was left of the cedar tree into a feature and we are absolutely delighted with the result.

“We are so grateful to Matt and Rick, who worked to create the carving of a pair of owls. The sculpture will be here for years to come for visitors to our memorial gardens to enjoy."

Pupils at neighbouring St Faith’s Primary School have been asked to think of names for the owls.
