A new drive-thru Burger King has been proposed in a Norfolk town, with councillors set to discuss the idea at the end of the month.

Breckland Council will weigh up whether to grant planning permission for the restaurant and takeaway chain to open a new two-storey outlet on Lime Kiln Lane in Thetford.

It would be built on an unused piece of land between the existing Halfords and Jollyes Pet Shop/Farmfoods retail units.

Thetford Town Council - which does not have the power to block the proposal but is asked to express a view on it - said they objected to it.

Its concerns ranged from traffic congestion caused by cars queuing for the drive-thru, litter issues and increased noise and smells.

Breckland’s planning committee is due to consider the planning application at a meeting on Tuesday, November 29 - with officers recommending that councillors vote in favour of it.

They said the restaurant would boost employment and would be located in an established retail park.
